Bible Colleges with Strong Missions Emphasis The International Studies program is designed to prepare an individual for leadership in inter-cultural communication. Students involved in this program will successfully complete an eight month supervised internship in cross-cultural communication. At ACC, you can minor in Missions and Evangelism. Furthermore, each student, prior to graduation and despite his/her particular area of study, is required to engage in a significant cross-cultural experience of at least four consecutive days. At BBC, missions study focuses on six areas of practical interaction: local missions projects; the National Missionary Convention, missions trips; cross-cultural internships; missions emphasis week; six missions-specific classes. A CCCB student who is majoring in Cross-cultural Ministry will 1) understand the history of missions, including the Biblical basis of mission work, 2) be able to direct a mission-interest program at a local congregation, and 3) have some experience on the mission field that will assist the student in determining whethere or not to enter mission work. CCU's Urban and Intercultural Studies program prepares students not only for international mission fields but also for reaching out to the diverse ethnic populations found in urban areas in this country. As part of the course of study, students will complete an internship in an urban or cross-cultural mission field of their choice. A wide range of ministry and cultural experiences are available in Cincinnati to complement the students' in-class work. See also: The Center for Urban and Global Outreach The Inter-cultural Studies Major at Crossroads College is intended for students who desire to pursue academic and experiental preparation for foreign or domestic mission work in a cross-cultural setting. Inter-cultural Studies majors are strongly encouraged to participate in a number of short-term missions trips. See also: World Missions and Ambassadors DCC offers a major in Intercultural Studies and minors in both Intercultural Studies and Urban Studies. ESR is a graduate and doctorate level Christian seminary offering study in World Mission and Evangelism. Great Lakes CC offers a minor in Cross-cultural Ministry which provides the basic and specialized skills necessary for the work of evangelism, both in the United States and in other cultures. HUI offers a B.A. in Intercultural Studies. A key component of the ICS program is a 9-month practicum/internship in which students apply classroom learning to a real-lfe setting. Students may choose a cross-cultural mission organization anywhere in the world—whether that be in Southern California or around the globe. This may even include serving in a missions department of a local church. JBC has a campus-wide missions emphasis. When founded in 1893, Johnson Bible College's original name was the "School of the Evangelist." One aspect of the evangelistic emphasis was world missions. Throughout her history, JBC has had a strong legacy of sending missionaries overseas. The major in Cross-cultural Ministry and Mission seeks to form students for local and global Christian service by providing foundations for awareness, sensitivity, analysis, and engagement of world cultures. Two tracks are available in Intercultural Studies: a Missions track and a Bivocationals Missions track. Both programs are designed to prepare students for entry-level intercultural ministry, both domestic and foreign, by equipping students with the knowledge and skills to incarnate the good news of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God among all peoples. LBC offers a Missions major. |
